Maya Walk Tool not working properly through Remote Portal

Hello!

As many other users, I am currently working remotly from home because of Covid-19 using Maya as my main software. As I deal mostly with cameras in my everyday work, I am generally using the walk tool (alt+X) a lot to find the specific angle needed. Since working remote though, the walk tool hasn't been working properly. I can activate it but it when clicking and dragging to pan the camera in the viewport, it stops panning right away.

Is there anything I can set in my preferences that would make this tool work properly?

Thanks a lot 🙂

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for posting! What version of Maya are you using on the remote machine? 2020.1 is the most current version, and we have update 2019.3 available as well 🙂

Does the behavior change if you change the Rendering UI Engine? (Settings/Preferences > Preferences > Display > Rendering Engine). Give DirectX and OpenGL Core profile both a try 🙂 You will have to restart Maya to apply each setting change.

It would also be great to know what graphics card you are using, as well as the driver.

Hi @Anonymous

Hope you are doing well! I wanted to check in and see how things were going - were you able to find a solution to this problem? Any workarounds?

If you wouldnt mind sharing the answers to the questions I asked previously, I would be happy to attempt to replicate this locally and investigate further.

Thanks for your time! I look forward to getting this resolved.

Hi Jordan!

My work machine which I am accessing remote from is a Linux box and I don't
seem to have access to the DirectX render engine profile.
I tried switching from OpenGL Legacy to compatibility without success for
the walk tool 😛

I'm running Maya 2018 Update 5 as it's the default one the project is using.

Computer has a GeForce GTX 1070 running on Nvidia

Thanks a lot for looking into this 🙂

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks so much for your reply! I realize this might be a hassle, but would it be possible to test 2020 on your work machine as well? This may be tied to something our Developers are currently investigating, but these symptoms have not been logged yet. If we can reproduce the issue in 2020 that will be a big clue for us!

I can confirm that this is still an issue with maya 2020, and maya 2022 as well. We use HP ZCentral Boost for remote connection. The walk tool "walks" with both wacom pen tablet and mouse using WASD on keyboard, but the "mouse look" works only with the wacom pen tablet, not the mouse.
