Maya Reference Changes Material File Texture Paths

Hello,

I have a spacesuit Maya asset with materials and textures.

In another Maya file for a shot, I have a reference to the spacesuit asset.

However, for some reason, the reference is changing the texture paths in the referenced Maya file. I can't figure out how or why.

e.g. in the spacesuit asset Maya scene file, one of the materials has a base color texture path as:

/Volumes/M2_10TB_2022B/m2/asset/humanMade/SpaceSuit/03_Texture/M2_SpaceSuit_TextureButtons_MCifuentes_V03/SpaceSuit_ProjectFile/sourceimages/aiYellow_Aluminum_BaseColor.<UDIM>.png

However, in the shot Maya file, when I reference the spacesuit asset, the same material base color texture path changes to:
 /Volumes/M2_2021/m2/asset/humanMade/spaceSuit/03_Texture/M2_SpaceSuit_TextureButtons_MCifuentes_V03/SpaceSuit_ProjectFile//sourceimages/aiYellow_Aluminum_BaseColor.1001.png

How and why would a reference to a Maya file change the paths of the material texture files?
Any insight would be much appreciated.

Thanks

We hat this issue several times in the past that referencing does destroy a file with with <UDIM> tokens.
If i remember correct the TDs created a script to fix it in the files.

Hi Christoph_Schaedl,

thanks. But the problem is the whole path is wrong.

The spacesuit asset textures live on:
/Volumes/M2_10TB_2022B

Whereas the referenced spacesuit textures are remapped to:
/Volumes/M2_2021

As a reality check, I created a new blank Maya scene file, then re-referenced the spacesuit asset, which lives on /Volumes/M2_10TB_2022B, along with its textures on the same drive.
However, when I look at a material assigned to a part of the referenced spacesuit, the texture paths are remapped to
/Volumes/M2_2021

That's the part I don't understand.

I assume you have set the project.
And its looking for a relative path to the project.

Yes. I set the project path to a subdirectory of /Volumes/M2_10TB_2022B

But for some reason it's remapping the texture paths to /Volumes/M2_2021

Could this be history related? Becuase I was using /Volumes/M2_2021 years ago.

I'll try deleting history on the spacesuit asset and save out to a new version.

Thanks
