MAYA_PLUG_IN_PATH INSTALL ERROR

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hello,

I am trying to install a plug-in for Rigging but each time I try to install I get an error. Please see below the error I am getting

Plug-in name is :- BrSmoothWeights

Error I am getting is :-
// Error: file: C:/Users/USER/Documents/maya/modules/brSmoothWeights/scripts/brsmoothweightscreatemenuitems.mel line 72: Plug-in, "brSmoothWeights", was not found on MAYA_PLUG_IN_PATH. //

I have also defined a Maya plug-in & script path in the Maya.Env file in my Documents folder but still not able to run this plugin.

Please advice or help with his issue.  I really need this to work for my school project.

Thanks in advance

Hello @Anonymous,

thanks for your post! I tried to reproduce the issue with the BrSmoothWeights Plugin, and followed the installation instructions: Installation. I could not reproduce the issue, so could you please check if you did the same steps?

  1. Extract the downloaded archive brSmoothWeights.zip to your C: drive.
  2. Run the automatic installation file install_win.bat with right mouse click and open
  3. Follow the prompts from the console window and use all default settings.
  4. The installation process should automatically create a folder at C:\Users\<YourUserName>\Documents\maya\modules\brSmoothWeights

Now start Maya and activate the plugin at Windows > Settings/ Preferences > Plugin Manager. By default the plugin is not activated. Activating Auto-Load also makes sense.

Now you should have the Paint Smooth Weights Tool and the Paint Transfer Weights Tool if you set the Main menu to Rigging and go to Skin > Smooth Skin Weights:

In my case it was not necessary to edit the Maya.env file. I would recommend to delete all of the new installed files from the plugin, set the Maya.env back to the previous status and start the installation of the plugin again from the beginning.

Looking forward to your reply, if you had success!

Best regards,

Patrick

Thank you for the solution. I tried all the steps you mentioned but was still unsuccessful. However the issue is resolved and it was upper case and lower case issue and I had to change the name of the file in the plugin folder as Maya wanted it to be and the trick worked.

Thanks again

Cheers
