Environment - Background file scenes in Maya

Hi

I am interesting for environment files (e.g. living room, living space, room, place) that can be used in Maya. Should it be mb or ma files? Where can I get some nice stuff?

Is there an option for someone to use a jpg as its background - environment scene in Maya?

Thanks

Hello @Anonymous,

thanks for your post! Regarding your question about environment files, you can import geometry into your scene file, using .mb or .ma, and also .fbx file format. You might find interesting pieces here: CG Trader, Turbosquid, or just type "3D models" into Google and see what comes up. It is important that you can chose .ma, .mb or .fbx as file format.

If you want to setup an image as background in Maya, you can basically set this up in 2 ways:

  • Setup a Backplate in Maya (works like a stage set with an image on a plane in the background, or inside the camera itself).
  • Setup an HDR Environment in Maya (using an HDRI image which is mapped on a sphere or dome surrounding the scene).

Here is an interesting example how these two ways are working with Arnold Renderer in Maya: Rendering a Car Using an HDRI and a Backplate

I hope this information helps!

Best regards,

Patrick
