Maya opens for one second and then immediately closes

With both 2018 and 2017. Tried restarting, tried uninstalling and reinstalling, deleting preferences. etc. No idea why this is happening and I'm totally screwed if i can't get this working I have a deadline on thursday and i need to be able to work tomorrow.

I recently upgraded my whole PC. kept gpus and hard drives but changed everything else. 2017 was stable (2018 wasn't) for the past day. I installed a driver i was missing for my cpu cooler and then as soon as i did that maya has been having this issue regardless of the version.

this is soooo frustrating -_-

Hi @tokyobadmon,

Sorry to hear that. Is your PC the latest Windows 10? This forum discussed the similar issue that you're facing. Can you check if the suggested solution helps?

I did a fresh install of windows 10. This fixed 2017 for me. Unfortunately, maya 2018.1 is still having the same problem that I was having before I reinstalled windows which is that it is giving a WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR on a bluescreen of death. Every other program is fine but 2018 gives the bsod after a minute or two. There must be some kind of serious memory leak issue or something. I never had this on my old pc.

Any suggestions on how to fix this??

one odd thing also is i press "enter serial number" on the splash screen that pops up for maya (in 2018 and 2017) but then it just opens maya to my account. I didn't revoke the license or re enter it on my new machine that i transferred the old hard drive from. not sure how to activate it properly because when i try it just starts working without me putting in the serial.

Hello @

Thank you for reporting back.

This means it is working normally, depending on the download method it will automatically recognize your credentials & signs-in, you do not manually need to type in the serial# & product key. If this sounds like the behaviour no worries it is activated & ready to go.

Just a note, an internet connection is required to activate, every 30days you should be connected to the internet at some point (to verify your license & use the software).

Please verify that the Licensing service is running:

1.) Open Run (win + R) and type  Services.msc

2.) Search for FLEXnet Licensing Service or FLEXnet Licensing Service 64.

3.) Open Properties by right click on it or simply double click on it.

4.) Make sure it's running (If it is disabled, they it will prevent the program from starting).

Set it to Automatic mode.

5.) Apply it and then open Maya.

Hello there not sure if there will still be activity here but I had to ask because I have a similar issue and so far I haven't had any succes going through these solutions, It would be safe to say the issue occured when I updated to the latest windows 10 version 1903 but after reverting I realized that's not the case, I also looked at the FlexNet service to see if it was the issue but it was running, reinstalling maya doesn't seem to help either can anyone help?

Late to the party, but if nothing of the already mentioned solutions work - try to simply go and delete the "prefs" folder in Documents/Maya/2020
(WARNING: this will delete all your hotkeys and layout settings etc) you can back them up by duplicating the existing folder and calling it "prefs_old" or something like that
