Hello, I am an admin at Otis College of Art and Design. We are running into issues with Maya (24.0.0.4640) that is disrupting classes. When a student or instructor loads an animation rig, the UI / Application locks up and becomes severely laggy. If the user is able to again scrub the timeline, actions like adding an animation layer cause the application (Maya) to again become locked up, extremely laggy in the UI, and unusable. Can provide machine spec (in general 12th Gen i9 and NVIDIA RTX A4500) and sample project. Any initial ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your thoughts.
Is this rig created in maya2024?
Or an stone edge old rig file created 6 years ago?
Cause old rigs does cause troubles. A lot changed in Maya since then.
You could try to turn off all GPU acceleration and parallel evaluation in the prefs.
I thought that might be the case, because an instructor was demonstrating the issue with their demo rig. But brand new rigs made by students are also locking up the UI.
I did notice that the situation is improved if I disable GPU Override off.
Strange because it is a very capable gpu (RTX A4500 20gb ram)
Are those rigs made with the latest workflows in mind?
Here a good overview.

Thanks for your insight. I've passed it along to the instructor and am awaiting feedback.
All best,
Nathan
