Maya freezing when isolating selection

When I try to isolate faces on an object maya freezes, i'm guessing it's because I have to much geometry.

Update since I haven't gotten any replies, I can isolate the head from the body but when I try to isolate the faces on the head maya freezes. I tried selecting all the faces on the head and just selecting one face on the head but either way maya freezes.
