Maya 2024 frequent crashes from very simple activities (Mac M1 OS Ventura)

Hello- running Maya 2024 and getting constant crashes while modeling- sometimes just moving in a viewport or moving an object, simple stuff.  I'm running on a Mac M1 Studio, using MacOS Ventura.

The crash log is not helpful:

//current scene = unDisclosed
//====================================================
//command history (most recent last):
//====================================================
//last tool: Move
//====================================================
//panel with focus: modelPanel4
//visible panels:
// modelPanel1 modelPanel2 modelPanel3 modelPanel4 outlinerPanel1 scriptEditorPanel1
//====================================================
1
//====================================================
//Memory usage:
// 0.000 Mb Free Memory
// 0.000 Mb Free Swap
// 1190.469 Mb Heap
//====================================================

It has become pretty much unusable

I can't help but wonder if this isn't a graphics issue- And I notice that the M1 isn't listed under approved graphics cards for M2024.

Any advice?

Thank you!

Could be many things unfortunately so it’s hard to diagnose. Could be a Maya issue or could be a PC issue like memory/disk space etc.

With a sequence it could be something like the naming convention used maybe, a specific object in the scene causing the crash https://100001.onl/ .

I’d love to help you figure it out, can you post pics of your settings?

I agree with paimondiesoza that this could be due to many things. Here are some questions I would ask/ things I would try:

• How big is the scene, and how many objects/polys?

• If it is fairly large, have you tried optimizing your scene?

• Have you tried a restart on your Mac and then zapping the PRAM? (Instructions on Apple help.)

• If you are just in the early stages of this file, try quitting Maya, opening a new file, and rebuilding the items in question. See if there is any change.

• Sometimes, it is an Arnold thing if you use that as your renderer, especially if you import files like FBX.

• Checking in with Apple support to see if the M1 has had any other problems with Maya.

There are more things to try as well, but I'll wait for feedback to paimondiesoza and this.

Thank you for your suggestions- what I did  (after restarting, deleting all history, and exporting the scene to no avail) was update to Maya 2024.0.1 and that seems (so far, knock on wood) to be a whole lot more stable.

Hello,

I am reopening this thread because, after a solid week of stable behavior (after installing 2024.0.1) I am getting the constant crashes again. I am just polygon modeling, and pretty constantly deleting history on everything, and exporting all to make a clean scene. And yet, I need only be zooming into a side view , or focusing on an object that I've just duplicated, and Maya pops off. Repeatedly.

@paimondiesoza  what settings would be helpful to see for troubleshooting this sort of thing? I don't know where to start looking.

Thank you in advance

-Doug

Gonna chime in here just to get on the record, ever since the last patch on 2024, maya has been CONSTANTLY crashing. It seems to be random during normal working. Sometimes I get a scene recovery file, sometimes I  get the bug reporter come up, and sometimes I get absolutely nothing. Maya just disappears and I have to reload it. This is the worst performance I've encountered in Maya for as long as I can remember. Something is terribly broken in this build and I hope it's a top priority to get it fixed because this is really unacceptable.

Sorry, quick edit cause I just noticed the title, I'm not on a mac, i'm on Win 10, but the symptoms seem to be the same.

Word. I've kind of narrowed down the problem to when I am duplicating objects (sometimes pure primitives!) and moving around/ zooming into orthogonal views to focus on or move the duplicated object.

But I can't replicate this in a clean scene- So I'm just avoiding dealing with the orthogonal views (!) and when I have to go into them I save before every move, 'cause there is a 50% chance Maya will just go poof. Not a good workflow.

I am having the same exact issue, did all of the other suggestions, including updating to Maya 2024.1.

I find it exactly as unstable as before, unfortunately.

Was another version more stable for you? I am coming from Windows and 2024 is the only one I have used on the M1. I was hoping this was going to be the most stable, but it's as you say, unusable.

Like you, I have only ever used 2024 on the M1. Previously I've been on Windows, Linux, Mac OS....I've never seen this kind of instability.

I am using 2023.3 with an iMac Pro 2017 and OS12.61. Not to say that I can't crash it, but it is usually in giant scenes with lots of processing. I can definitely say that 2023.3 is more stable than what you are reporting. Does 2024 have a feature you must have that is not available on 2023? If not, you might want to try that until Autodesk figures this out.

When Maya Presents with the "Maya has Stopped Working" and you okay out of that do you get a CER Report launched? It will have a field for your email address and a Description box where you can specify what it was you were doing prior to the crash. If you can, please fill that CER out and submit it then return to us the CER Report number that will be generated. Thank you.

Will do next time. I always wondered if those things just went into a black hole somewhere.

This release is so unstable. I have to re-boot at least 10-12 times a day. Doesn't matter whether it's a small, large, clean or whatever scene. It just crashes constantly, mainly from simple navigation and camera panel view changes.
