Maya 2024 Crashes on EVERY Render

Hi, Maya is crashing every time I do an Arnold Render.  From a small scene to just a cube, the same thing happens.  It just crashes to desktop.  I dont know what to do.  I found some logs in Event Viewer which are below, for the last 3 most recent crashes.  Is there anything else I can provide?  Can anyone help?  Im on a student license so I cant raise a support request 😕

Win11.  This was happening last week, I have since completely formatted my drive and reinstalled Windows, but it persists!  It also persists over to Maya 2023.  It happens on CPU or GPU renders.

GPU: 4090RTX

Can anyone help?  Any other way I can get support as a student license holder?

Hi @angeldak0ta91 ,

I have been in similar situations before, and it's not fun! As basic as it sounds, I would reset your preferences, and if that doesn't end up working, try re-installing Arnold with the newest update.

  • Here is how to reset prefs
  • You can log into your Autodesk account and navigate to your product tab under your profile to find the newest version of the Arnold plugin.

Tagging @Stephen.Blair and @alec.andersenLP8AU for additional thoughts 😄

Thanks! I have reset preferences, reinstalled Arnold, reinstalled Maya, formatted my drive and reinstalled windows...same issue with rendering in Arnold.  I have done a memtest thing and my RAM passed all tests.  I have used an SSD checker (samsung magician) to test my SSD's, and all are good.  I just dont know what to do.

I dont get any Maya support because I have a student license, but that seems so wrong - why would I buy a subscription to an app which crashes when I render?  I cant decipher the crash logs and I have no idea whats breaking and theres really no support!

But I do appreciate your reply.

I fear that wont help with your Arnold troubles but does Renderman work?

There is a free Renderman version for Maya 2023 at least. Or the Vray Demo?

Just to test if there is something going on with your hardware.

I installed V-Ray demo and I can render perfectly with that (as a maya 2024 plugin).  So this kinda points to a Maya/Arnold Issue?  I reallly need this fixed! 😕

Based on the Arnold log, you're crashing when you render in the Arnold RenderView, right?

  • Can you try doing a batch render? Does that crash? (the Arnold log will go into the MayaRenderLog.txt)
  • If you open the Arnold License Manager and click File > Diagnostics, does that crash? (the diagnostics do a test render with the kick utility)

We can't really tell much from any of the various logs, it's all generic errors.

Hi! Rendering using batch render seems to work fine, at least it did not crash after 3 renders.  This is great.  But what does this mean?  Whats the difference between rendering via batch render or via renderview?

When I run diagnostics in Arnold License Manager, it does not crash (though it does say no license found).

Thanks for your help!

Hi please can someone help me!?  I contacted support and they just keep telling me to try the forums.  Is this seriously how Autodesk support works?  This is a month old.

I have the exact same problem! Using Vray 6. Crashes on Maya 2023 and Maya 2024 with ANY render. Specs: Intel i9 14900, RTX 4070 Ti.

The worst thing is nobody is helping!  I tried contacting support and they told me to try the forums.  This forum post is over a month old with barely any input from the promised experts who should be here.

There's nothing to go on. Just a generic error. And no Crash Error Report? (CER) ?

If it crashes even with an empty scene, and only in the Arnold Render View, then that suggests something like OpenGL, maybe.

A batch render has no UI, that's why I asked you to try it.

The Arnold License Manager diagnostics also do a test render, using the kick command line tool. And that didn't crash either.
