I know this was covered and corrected in 2018, but I am having this problem with 2020.
Specifically, I am trying to launch within the Primitive Attributes.
I have cleared out my user prefs but that didn't help.
Thanks in advance

Hi @Anonymous
I've reached out to our Maya team and they are aware this is an issue. They've logged a ticket for it and hopefully it will be fixed in the next update. Thanks for your patience!
*Edited with update!*
Hi,
Any update on this? The Expression Editor in Xgen does not open in Maya 2020 still. Is there any known workaround for this, because it is essentially stopping me from using 2020, and rollback to the version where it did work. Thanks.
I feel like this problem started around 17 tbh, I’m surprised this still hasn’t been resolved. I’m honestly fighting the urge to learn Yeti over simple but unresolved issues with xGen all the time 😞
😮 hallelujah! Software updates with new features are godsend during these times. Stay at home is about to get better depending on n what is implemented in 2020.1 must download now! Thanks for the heads-up!
Hi, its been a long since January 2020 time waiting to be able to open the Xgen ExpressionEditor , cant contibue my education on this is very frustrating, when are you going to find a solution??? the same problem years ago appeared but you were able to find a solution fast, why ia taking so long? Im losing any hope of you fixing this important issue
Hi!
This also works with a student license.
Make sure to use Maya 2020.1 or newer and
try a reset of your Maya Preferences in your user documents folder.
a) Rename the folder prefs in folder 2020 to something like prefs_backup, or the folder 2020 to 2020_backup
(Don't copy preferences from previous Maya versions.)
b) For a complete reset of ALL Preferences, rename the maya folder to maya_backup.
Maya creates new folders when started.
This is definitley not solved. just did a complete clean reinstall grabbing the newest version of Maya from the education website for mac. Sadly there seems to be no way to tell what version of 2020 there is as they just say 2020 instead of 2020.01 and Autodesk only has a desktop app for PC's... ugh. Anyone have an update on how to fix this?
Wow. So apparently Autodesk doesn't know how to put the newest version up on it's website for download. If you want the updated version of the Maya 2020 release v.3 you have to go here: https://manage.autodesk.com/cep/#products-services/updates
If you don't and go to the educational download page for Maya it gives you old 2020 version made in 2019. No wonder my students Maya installs are constantly crashing. Autodesk, please improve your update system for Macs. It's also so insane that we have to download a completely new version of the software and do a clean install each time we want to update instead of having a desktop app like you have for PC's. Or, why not just create an update installer that updates the version in place like so many other apps do? Time to catch up if you want to truly support Mac users.
I also had this issue. Not sure if anyone already figured out a solution, but I wrote all the expressions using windows notepad and saved them as SE files. I'm using the educational version.
ya... thanks for the advice and now my xgen file cannot open properly.......it told me fail to find paintmaps and mask
First sorry for my bad english.
Now about this problem its solve if you update to XXXX.01 or what ever. But for any reason can't update or don't want. This is really brute solution. Create text document (.txt) write you code and rename as .se (Sample.SE). Next load from drop down menu on expresion button : Load Expresion->Load Others.
