Hello!
Normally when I choose my unit size in preferences, the grid size would reflect those changes (if its inches, one square on the grid would be 1 inch)
In Maya 2019
right now... it doesn't look like that. I have set to inches and and its several units in size.

What are your grid settings?
Changing to from cm to inches will affect the grid but it wont automatically make one grid unit equal 6inches or 12 inches for example.
You need to manually change the grid values to match with what you want.
