Maya 2018 isnt reading file from disk any more

After saving a reasonably sized Maya (.ma) file I closed down my machine (which I often do). When relaunching the file a few minutes later it only read to 89% and just stayed there. The file usually takes only half a minute to load but it had been stuck at the same point for over an hour.

I opened the task manager to evaluate disk activity when opening the file again. The disk was completely idle the whole time. I'm certain its not a disc issue as I have launched other Maya files from the same drive without failure. It's this single file that's just refusing to behave.

So far I have tried resetting Maya to factory defaults, launching the file from within Maya as well as the notorious system restart.

I'm not using any third party plugins or render engines with Maya.

I would really appreciate some help as this was last backed up several days back. This is also part of my college FMP, so I can't afford to lose too much work.

@danielS6596

How large is the file, and what file type (binary/ascii). There was a bug that was rectified in Update 2 that lifted a 2GB file limit on binary files.

Cheers,
Mike

Yeah, unfortunately, I have experienced stuff like this with Maya in the past, it may be to do with way Maya saves the file. Other software platforms don't seem to mess up as frequently as Maya does. Some of these sorts of problems fix themselves incredibly, others don't. But I wouldn't be surprised if at the end of all this I have to retreat to the backup.

Thanks for your response
