Maya 2017 Trial Version crashing during Arnold rendering

I just downloaded the most current Maya 2017 Trial, and it immediately crashed during an Arnold test render (just a primitive cube). I tried resetting the Preferences back to default, and got the same crash when trying to render an older/previous Maya file of mine. I have a 2008 Mac Pro/Quad Xenon w/ 16 RAM. After the crash, a prompt appears "The "xcrun" command requires the command line developer tools. Would you like to install the tools now?"

I looked at the Apple report after the crash but it was super long and I didn't see anything definitive.

Any help/advice is appreciated, thank you!

Have you installed the latest version of Arnold? Maya 2017 installs with an outdated version and so does Update 4. So every time you update you also have to reinstall Arnold to overwrite the outdated version.

Here is a link to the download: Arnold Downloads

I would also suggest resetting you preferences folder after the update.

Let me know if that helps.

Cheers

Thanks that did it! One more question- how can I effectively remove ALL MR nodes from an older/previous Maya file I'm trying to import into 2017? I've  tried  removing it from the Outliner/Display/uncheck DAG Objects only, but 2017 is still saying that MR nodes remain. Can I just ignore this or will it cause some conflicts?

Thank you again!

Cool! Glad to hear you're up and running.

You can try to optimize your scene. File > Optimize Scene if you open the options box you can select all of the options to catch all the unknown nodes.

You could also just select all the objects in your scene that you want to keep, and File > Export Selection and save it as a Maya Scene or FBX or an .obj if it's just geometry.

Hope this helps!

Thanks again for you help!

I tried the File/Optimize, but it still came into 2017 saying it had MR nodes, and the Arnold Render choice was not available even though it was loaded in the Plug In manager. I need my previous file to come into 2017  w/ separate elements, so I went back to that file and in Outliner/Display/ unchecked Dag objects Only and deleted all the files, and kept it as an ma. file (like you advised). It then came into 2017 w/ Arnold as a rendering option and so far, it hasn't crashed- now I can explore Arnold!
