Maya 2017 SP5 on Window 10 doesn't remember recently used paths in File Dialog

I'm using Maya at a new facility and for some reason the file dialog seems to have amnesia and doesn't recall the various paths I have used. Myself and some other users don't recall this being a problem previously. Switching to the windows file dialog is an option albeit not attractive and wasn't the required previously for this very useful feature. I can't seem to find a preference for this behavior. Anybody know the solution to this?

Hi @Anonymous

This issue is a bit tough.

I remember another user having a somewhat similar complaint but unfortunately it's hard to reproduce.

Here's my recent paths for example.

This shows everything I touched recently and is what I would expect. Yours didn't look too out of sorts but out of curiosity, if you click around your file explorer a good bit then go back to Maya does it not update?

If so, you could try deleting your settings/preferences.

Let me know if anything changes!

Did something change about the FIle dialog between 2016 and 2017? I dunno if I can compare to 2016 readily.. I don't think we have it here.  But what I recall was that it would list various files you had loaded including ones that weren't in the same drive and it would remember them across maya sessions. As it currently is it does not remember the directory I was previously in when I restart maya.

I know I can switch to the windows OS native dialog which works more like I recall but is not color matched to the rest of the UI.

I mean I know I can get recent files from the File menu but I got into the habit of of being able to use this in the Maya Open File dialog??? Maybe I've lost my mind??? :0

Hi @Anonymous

I believe this was a change from 16 to 17 and I remember having a similar discussion to this one in a thread from a few months back.

I'm looking right now to see if there are any major differences across 16-18 but it can be tough cause I feel like sometimes the file dialog works as expected and others it doesn't

I think there is on already but if there isn't you could post this idea on the Maya Idea Board!

This is a great place for the community to share ideas or feature they want to see in the future of Maya and this board is regularly checked by the dev team!
