match pivot question

Hello,
Is there a way to match the pivot orientation and position of two objects if if they are not at the same place?
It seems that the only way to make the "match pivot" tool work, is for the two objects to be at the same place.

Dumb question but did you set the Match Pivot Options to just match orientation?

Yes I did try all the options.
Even if I check only this option, the tool will displace the pivot to the position of object A.

Can you provide  a simple Maya ascii file (.ma) that shows the issue?

I created a new scene and everything worked correctly.
