MASH curve spin question

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi,

A little stuck here and I hope you can help! I have some geo following a curve using MASH and want it to spin around the curve along the curve axis. To get it spinning I used a second MASH curve in the shape of a circle and this is the result:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hq8dVHCU0HA

As you can see, it spins in the original circle axis, not along the axis of the main curve it is following. So at the 11s mark in the video you can see instead of spinning around the curve, it spins along it. I'm sure there is a simple way to make the geo spin around the curve, any pointers!?

Thanks very much!

Hi!

Try offsetting pivot for rotation (don't use second curve) and then orient the mesh at the main curve (don't know if that works).

Thanks for the help!

Using the pivot offset method here - https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/maya/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2016/ENU/Maya/fil...

...I have the object spinning around as desired, but now the trails do not follow the geo as of course they are following the MASH group instead -_-

Any other ideas? Thanks again!

Accepted solution

OK. Got a solution from Chris at Mainframe North. Amazing!

Hey Dean, I've dropped a potential solution to the comments on your YouTube vid.

Nearly! Try Distribute + Curve + Offset (Mode = Multiply by Time, Transformation Space = Local, put a value in RotX) + Offset (Mode = Offset, Transformation Space = Local, put a value in PosY) + Trails. Order is important! Maya 2017 Update 3 scene here - drive.google.com/open?id=0B8Zr9JUTItvXaFhNa2xVc2RQbFU

Cheers,
Chris
