Legacy Java SE 6 runtime

Trying to run a new install of Maya 2020 on OS X 10.15.2 and the app crashes directly after opening it with a dialog box that says "To open "Maya" you need to install the legacy Java SE 6 runtime"

I don't have that option as the installer that Apple offers for that won't overwrite the newer version already on the OS.

I am without options, anyone have any advice?

Maya are relying on Java 6. Mac OS X Yosemite (and the newer versions) are having a later version of Java Runtime (SE 8.0). You need install Java 6 on your computer.

Note: You can have both Java SE 8 and Java SE6 installed on your computer without any issues. And, you DO NOT need to uninstall SE 8 and then install SE 6.

Go to the following link

Download Java for OS X 2017-001

If that link doesn’t work, try this direct link

http://download.info.apple.com/Mac_OS_X/031-03190.20140529.Pp3r4/JavaForOSX2014-001.dmg

Download Java 6 for Mac and install it.

I attempted to run that installer long before I made the post, the installer fails, not allowing for the installation of Java 6 because there is a “newer version already installed”. This installer issue is not an Autodesk problem but rather one of Apple or more likely Java I suppose.

I’ve since wiped my entire Mac, erased and reformatted my HD and installed 10.15.2 fresh rather than just as an upgrade of Mojave and with a clean install of 2020 am once again back in Maya.

I’ll likely never know of a solution to the issue I was faced with other than the scorched earth approach I’ve taken.

But thanks for taking the time to respond.
