Layered Shader with PNG is blocking all other layers

I'm trying to replicate an old Mental Ray layered shader in the latest '24 version. I used to make a layered shader with a chrome texture and a transparent png on top, but that was with Mental Ray, and I can't seem to replicate it in Arnold. This is what I used to have:

Now I've set an aiStandard surface with the png which works fine, but when I try to add that to a layered shader, it completely blocks out the other layers. The only way to get the layers beneath to show is to turn down the mix, which isn't really an option. There's clearly something I'm missing with the png or shader, but I don't know what it is. Any help is appreciated!

It's missing the textures.
