Importing a DAE File into Maya 2016

Hello,

I'm new to Maya2016 and I downloaded a model that came as a .dae file and tried importing it into Maya using Import and selecting "DAE_FBX" as the import file type.

When I did this Maya stopped responding, I tried a couple of times after that with the same results.

Am I doing something wrong and is there a soultion/way to import .dae files?

Thank you.

You ever figure this out? I'm having the same issue. When I import I get this:Maya_ImportError.PNG

Maya_ImportError_ScriptEditor.PNG

Nothing appears in the scene or outliner.

I had the same issue. What I did to fix it was choosing my OS from this link (GitHub Dropbox of ColladaMaya). This will take you a list of versions of this plugin. I chose the last version, opened the folder and then downlowaded the .mll object only

When it's done downloading, go to windows-> settings-preferences -> Plug-in manager in Maya. Once the window opens, click the bottom left button "browse", so you can see the folder where your plugins are being storaged. There is where you have to paste the .mll you just downloaded. When you are done pasting the .mll object there, click the refresh in the Plug-in manager box, and then search the plugin called COLLADAMaya.mll and load it.

Then import the object like you would usually do, but choose OpenCOLLADA importer instead of DAE-FBX. It worked for me, good luck.
