Import in Maya does not work

The import in Maya does not work. What can I do?

I want to import a step or stl file, but Maya rejects the file. Whats is wrong?
I have the 2019 version of Maya

- What does this mean? What happens in detail? Any error messages?

Please check in Plug-in Manager if the plug-in stlTranslator.mll is loaded.
