How to see what has changed with a model update

Hello,

I'm working with another team who is creating updates to my model (in another software) i'm currently using. When I receive a new model iteration, is there a way to have Maya compare models to show what has been edited, taken out, or added? This would make it easy to figure out in what way (if any) my model is outdated.

I've seen this capability in other software, this may have to be a feature request.

Thanks!

Bob B.

Yes , that’s very easy, just keep the models in the same position in both softwares so when you import over the existing one you can see the new changes, you can also ask the other team mates to color code the areas that have been updated/ changed.
you can also check if the other software support layers  that can be transferred with Fbx.

Hi Damaggion,

The model i'm working with is hundreds of intricate parts so looking at it visually in comparison wouldn't work.  What I've seen in other software is the ability to print out a report that lists part additions, removals, and edit (seeing edits probably isn't possible since the model is coming from other software) changes. That seems the most ideal. Seems like a script could take care of it for Maya.

Thanks,

Bob B.

I seriously doubt it but you can close this post and make an specific question in the Programming section and see if some smart folks can suggest anything close to what you are after.
best regards Bob.
