How to change the 'bounding box' dimensions/metrics/size a 3D model on Maya

Hello,

I have been working with 3D models of eyewear (.obj format). When I upload them onto Unity, although the scales are the same, the sizes of the glasses are different. I concluded that it must be the 'bounding box' sizes for the 3D models, since when I open the obj folders, they are different numbers.

How can I change the bounding box sizes for these 3D models on Maya so that all glasses can be same size on Unity? Is Maya capable of this or should I be using something else?

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Hi,

I'm sorry for the poor explanation, I will try my best now. I've attached the Maya scene and the 3D model fo the glasses I am working with in the obj file format.

Basically, I just want to change the size of this 3D model (via changing the size of its bounding box) so that when it appears in Unity or any other platform, the size of the 3D models of glasses can be somewhat uniform.

I hope this explains it better. Please let me know if more info is needed. Thanks!

@Anonymous - FYI, attachments (and a bunch of other stuff) don't work when replying by email.  Please log directly into the site and re-attach.

Hi!

Here are the attached files. One is the Maya project and the other is the obj folder of the glasses I am working with. Thanks.

Please also see this short video below too. Basically this is the tool I am looking for, but I cannot find it on Maya 2019, to modify the bounding box for my 3D models.

Thanks!

Hi!

If you want the tool from the video you need Maya Bonus Tools.

https://area.autodesk.com/bonustools/

However i don't see any need for this (also this tool does not preserve relative dimensions if not entered correct manual.)

Instead:

1. Just scale the object in Maya with the Scale Tool and then use

2. Modify -> Freeze Transformations

as Reference you can create:

- a simple cube with the right width or height (whatever you need as reference)

- or import the 3d model where the glasses need to match to.

- You should also be able to scale the object in Unity.

Thank you so much for the reply! I had suspected so. I was unrealistically looking for an automated way to re-size and re-centre already made 3D models of eyewear, but it seems to be more of a manual process.

Thank you!
