Grid not showing when I open a new scene

Hi everyone. I know how to make the grid show in the viewport, but I noticed that every time I open a new project, the grid is hidden by default. Not sure why this could be. I can easily turn it back on, but I'd rather avoid having to do that every time I open a new scene. Anyone know a fix?

Maybe turned off in the prefs?
Preferences -> Display -> View -> Grid plane
