Grease Pencil not working...

So since I have had 2014 installed grease pencil only worked once and I have not changed anything. It just worked all of a sudden one start up, but prior to that and since it has not worked at all. Everything opens (the menu) and when I add a frame and select a brush that all works, but when using the mouse or Wacom tab it will not paint anything. I even upgraded to the latest drivers for the Wacom, but like I said the mouse wont work either. Anyone have ideas?

Wow, the solution actually worked. 3 years later and they still haven't  fixed it.

In the case of a camera in a scaled group you can fix it using something like :

setAttr greasePlaneShape1.depth 1.1;

where the group is scaled to 100, if it's scaled to 50 then a depth of 0.51 will work and so on. You just need to make sure the depth is slightly more than the group scale divided by 100.

I see that other people have had the same issues and had this solved. However, my attribute editor does not have that tab. Not sure if this is due to my using Maya 2018. Can you let me know what I am doing wrong? (See attached photo).

Thanks for any help!

Hmm, I tried to use the grease pencil and figure out how to help you, but it caused a fatal error and crashed. Maya is horrible.

Hahah! Well, thanks for trying! I'm still under the three year mark of my Maya experience so I thought it might be something I wasn't doing right.

If I reopen a file with grease pencil drawings I can often no longer see them.  I have figured out I can fix this by exporting them, deleting them, then reimporting them.

  1. Open Grease Pencil toolbar (with the grease pencil icon above a viewport)
  2. Use the "Export Grease Frames" button
  3. Right click in the timeline, "Grease Pencil" > "Delete Frames" > "All"
  4. Use the "Import Grease Frames" button
