Hi everyone. I have been frustrated by a set of files that instantly crash or hard freeze the UI on Rocky Linux 9.6 and my favorite distro, Fedora 42. The strange thing about them is that the files open fine on my Windows installation, but not in my Linux drives. Importing them instead of opening the file still causes instant lock ups or hard crashes. I love using Linux way more than Windows, and some of the work that are instantly crashing are very important to me. The only things different with this file and some like it is that they use Renderman, and some used NGSkinTools. I talked to a member of the Renderman community and after much trial and error, we believe that this may be a Maya issue and not a problem with Renderman. When I opened these files back on Fedora, they did not produce crash logs, but now on Rocky Linux I can get them. Unfortunately, I do not know how to decipher what is going wrong with my files and what makes opening them in Linux more problematic. Attached to this post is a screenshot of a crash log of one of the bad files and a problematic file that hard freezes, and one that generates a crash log.
I would really love to get back to work and put this trouble behind me. Thank you.
