Dropdown green brackets - Maya 2014 OS X

Under the dropdown menus Select/Multi Component and Mesh/Reduce are highlighted in green with green brackeys on either side. I am unable to move selected polygon faces because of this. I tried quitting, and deleting the prefs but those two things stay highlighted, keeping me from using the app.

The green text and brackets indicate which features are new in this version of Maya.  It should not affect the functionality of those menu items.  Are you saying that when you select one of these items from the menu, nothing happens?  Do other menu items work?

In any case, if you want to turn of the green highlighting, you can do the following:

* Open Preferences.

* Click on the "Interface" category.

* Uncheck the box for "Highlight what's new in this release"

* Click the "Save" button.

Thank you for your promt reply. I guess because I used that new tool right before the problem happened I attributed it to that function. For some reason now when I select a face, the xyz arrows don't appear like they did before allowing me to stretch it,  and I can't figure out why.

Maybe you are in select mode instead of move mode? (Not sure if you are looking for a specific tool.  This is just the first thing I thought of.)

Thanks! That did the trick. Sorry about my newbie question. Have a great weekend.
