Different versions

Hi

I have Maya 2018 at home and my school has 2016. How do I keep working on the project I created using Maya 2018 at school? I keep getting a message errors have occurred while reading this scene that may result in date loss. Please check the script editor for details.

Hope I didn't lose my project.

Thanks.

Hi!

Different Maya versions are not compatible.

It is not recommended to change Maya versions during a project.

To exchange scenes also try other formats like ".ma" and ".fbx".

probably best to install 2016 at home also or try to get the school to update to 2018

You can try saving .ma's and editting the version with a text editor.

Or upon opening check 'ignore version number' or whatever.

however depending on the complexity of your scenes it may or may not work.

Take a look at what .FBX formats suppport and perhaps that would be a reasonable 'exchange' format to use.
