Crashing

Hi there,

is there something I can check in Maya to prevent crashes?

It is crashing every day multiple times with the error message "Fatal Error. Attempting to save in C:/..../Temp/...."

Maya crashes during render with Arnold/Redshift, UV-Editor, selecting faces... - (Not always.. it is random).

There are tons of videos online where people change the environment variables. Should I try it or keep my hands of?

I'm using the Maya 2018.2 Student version on a PC.

I7 7700k

32GB RAM

GTX 1060 with newest driver

Most of the warnings relate to objects having no shading groups. I’m trying
now to render with png format and it’s working so far. Which is the best
format i can use to convert it later to targa?
Thank you

Hi @Anonymous

It doesn't matter but JPG or PNG would be the simplest. Simply open them in photoshop then hit Save As and select TGA. It may take a while depending on how many frames you're rendering but this is a workaround for now at least so you can meet your deadline.

Hi!

For best quality in Maya i suggest to use PNG or Tiff (JPEG is possible but uses lossy compression).

In Photoshop you can use Batch , Image Processor or Create Droplet for automated conversion of multiple files.

I haven't rolled back yet, which I really should. But one of my kids has been ill so it's not been a top priority.

However, I can tell you that these random crashes happen no matter what rig  I am using, in fact, even if I am just altering geometry it happens.

I am reluctant to roll back my graphics card, however, I have read in another thread that the Wacom driver might be causing an issue?

Maya has crashed dozens of times over the last few days. Half the time it creates a crash report.

Here are few of the CE numbers from the last hour. There are more but I haven't saved them all.

Hi @emilySKA2V

Thanks for the CER reports! I was able to look them up as well as the rest you've logged recently.

Off the bat, one of the crashes you're getting may be due to a known issue with manipulating values in the channel box causing a crash. Specifically, if any value is manipulated in the channel box by click-dragging the value, Maya crashes later, when the change is removed from the undo queue.

While knowing that may allow you to dodge some issues, I still recommend rolling back the driver as its a simple test and easy to update back to the most recent version if need be.

Fianlly, Wacom drivers have been causing some issues so if you're working with a Wacom tablet you could try that as well and/or just not use the Wacom and see if the crashes still occur.

Thaniks @sean.heasley

Not from using the middle mouse button and dragging to adjust values seems to have stopped the crashes. Thank you! I'm not entirely sure how to accept that solution as I don't see a button to let me do that.

Hi @emilySKA2V

Don't worry I marked it! Thankfully this issue is known and there should be a fix implemented in the near future!
