CPU usage reaching 100% just by using arnold IPR

Literally only trying to see if my new build can handle maya at its most basic - this being a cube of 5x5x5 subdivision levels on a basic plane and a skydome light.

I don’t understand why it’s using 100% of my CPU. I’m now too scared to do anything intensive.
Specs as below
Intel core i7 7700
Gigabyte G1 GTX 1080 8gb
32 gb of corsairs vengeance 2666mhz (2x16)
Windows 10 pro.

Please help? I’ve installed the right chipset for my motherboard. Not sure I’ve missed any steps or doing something silly?

Hi!

You complain that the renderer is able to use all resources (all CPU cores) of your computer for efficient and fast rendering?

You can limit used threads (cores) in Arnold Render View and in Render Settings.

Please read the Maya Online Help / Documentation and Arnold for Maya User Guide for more details.

To be honest, the CPU seems to flare up to 100% even by opening Chrome or
any other application/software at first. Any sudden change it just makes it
go to 100%. I don't understand why this is happening because it's a brand
new build. Not sure if I'm just missing some sort of driver or whatnot.

I'll try what you suggested but Maya is currently on default settings,
literally just installed it and attempted simple tests just to see how
intensive it is on my CPU.

Any ideas?

Also, I wouldn't say complaining as much as it is concerning. CPU seems to flare up to 100% by opening Chrome or loading up photoshop. Have I missed something I needed to install prior to start using the PC for what I built it for?

Any ideas would help massively!

Thanks

Alex

Hi!

Screenshot please + setting for refresh rate in CPU tool, or better make a screenscast (especially when opening photoshop).

Will do tonight as I go home! 🙂

I do have some repeat of the same processes going on at the same time. I had installed anti-virus before I even installed anything on there so don't think it's malware? I have seen another forum about the newest Windows update causing this but I'm very doubtful something like that would make CPU so drastically active.
