Convert a projection (from camera) into classic UV. How ?

Hello

I would like to convert my projection done with a camera into "classic UV". In a way I want to freeze the UV.

Some precisions : I don't want to bake the texture, it 's the UV I want to "bake". And I don't want to use the create reference texture object to freeze it in maya. My aim is too export the object in a compositing software (Fusion), so I need him to have classic 2d UV (not projection).

Thanks for help

Hi @guibertv ,

Thanks for bringing your question to the forums! I think some of the terminology you are using doesn't translate 1-1 with my understanding of Maya, BUT i am hoping to make some suggestions 😄

First off, the way Maya exports UV's they will be exported within the Mesh on Export, and usually textures can be applied easily from there from any 2d compositing software ( I use Photoshop). Here is a great video from On Mars 3d that might help.

So one Export, the UV's should export just fine with no extra options (at least with an FBX), but you can also export a "UV Snapshot" as described here.

Best of luck 😄

Thanks for your answer.
That's not exactly what I was looking for. Talking with some devs, it seems what I want is not possible with maya native. Need some scripts.

@guibertv

Makes sense, Fusion to Maya workflow might not translate 1-1 out of the box, if you do find a more suitable/customized scripted solution, let us know on the thread, that way the rest of the community can learn from your process (which sounds pretty unique and interesting!).

Feel free to share your project here too, either way, have a great rest of your day 😄 warm regards,

it sounds like you want to create UV:s from the camera view.
UV > Camera-based

Doesn't that do what you want?
