Color swatch and folder maya interface elements scaled down very sma [Maya 2018]

I just did a fresh install of Maya 2018 on a new computer and when I try to use the "color management"/color picker box on materials interface elements like the color wheel are scaled down to be very small so that they are unusable. This also effects toon shading/ramp shader selectors with the handles being really tiny. It also effects the file icons in maya file viewer. Apart from these places however the interface scaling seems completely normal. I've tried using the Settings and Preferences --> Interface --> Scaling options but it doesn't make any difference. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this? Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi @Anonymous

What GPU are you using are the drivers the same as our certified hardware list?

You can find our certified hardware list here!

Also, while you reinstalled Maya, you may want to try deleting your settings/preferences.

Let me know if anything changes!

Thank you for your response, however, the problem is still persisting. So far I've tried:

  1. Repairing Maya
  2. Complete removing maya and autodesk apps from my computer and doing a complete full reinstall from a fresh download
  3. Deleting the pref folder
  4. Updating my graphics card drivers

There doesn't seem to have been any change.

@sean.heasley On the document you linked the supported graphics driver version for the GTX1060 is 382.33, currently I'm using 398.36. Is it worth trying to roll back my graphics driver to see if it fixes the problem? Also, I don't know if it's relevant, but when I first tried to install Maya on this computer I had an error which meant I had to delete my C++ redist and reinstall it manually because the installation was failing.

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for posting the detailed list of steps you have tried!

Yes it is worth rolling back the driver to our officially supported version to see if anything changes.

I'm looking again at your screenshots and the font sizes and ramps don't look that different from mine but I'd like to see if the driver change affects anything before we move on with other steps.

@sean.heasley

Hi Sean,

I'm attempting to change my driver version but its proving more difficult due to Nvidia's byzantine interface and poorly implemented attempts at DRM. I'm able to currently roll back to a driver that is earlier than the certified driver or update to the latest driver but I'm not able to easily install the absolute certified driver. I've asked on the Nvidia forums for assistance and I'll report back when I get a solution to install the driver.

However, on my previous computer, which was an identical build to this and had the same graphics card and drivers I never had this issue. So is there anything I can do in the mean time that might be able to deal with the problem?

I agree the color swatches aren't THAT small, I mean, they are just about usable, but the color wheel and file icons are absolutely tiny, and its clear that there is empty space for them to fill up. The window box there in is normal sized, its just the elements within it that are very small. Also if you notice on the first image the button that says "sign in" is also very small. Is there anything I might be able to alter in my settings and preferences that could change the size of this stuff?

Thank you for your continued help on this matter.

I'm not sure if this is significant, but I've also tried using the "Interface Scaling" options in Preferences and settings section of the program and it has no effect at all. I've also tried changing the font size in the interface menu which also also has lead to no discernible change.

Hi @Anonymous

The GPU driver is our best bet for testing. There are steps from Nvidia on rolling back drivers that may help.

Also, what resolution are you working in and are you using multiple monitors and/or a laptop etc?

Hi there, i’m still on summer vacation until the end of the week. Should be back on my main computer by then and be able to try the driver issue. As it’s only a problem localised to that specific computer. Sorry for the delay!
