Hi @Anonymous and welcome to the community!
You might want to try deleting your settings/preferences and then set that variable again and try to launch Maya.
Also, do you have other applications that are in english despite your PC being japanese? The variable should work but I'm wondering if the pc being from Japan has anything to do with this.

"
Resetting preferences on Windows:
But there is no prefs folder in my maya folder. There is only ja_JP and Maya Env.
What to dooooo
Maya is the only program i have in Japanese....
and it is weird as I am using the Autodesk_Maya_2018_wi_en-US_Setup_webinstall
Hi @Anonymous
Hmm this is unusual.
I think this may be happening because the OS/machine is Japanese itself which is mentioned in this article.
"The Maya user interface automatically appears in Japanese/Simplified Chinese when launched within a Japanese/Simplified Chinese operating system environment."
What you can try are the steps mentioned in that article on stick with English instead of Japanese/Chinese
So you would do this:
The Windows operating system will indicate it needs to be restarted for the changes to take effect.
