Hi!

Save scene as .ma (Maya ASCII).

Hi @Anonymous and welcome to the community!

@mspeer is correct and to add my 2 cents, I created a simple scene in Maya 2018 and did some basic modeling.

Once I was done I went to Save As->Maya ASCII format and reopened the scene in 2017 and everything was exactly how I had it in 2018.

This should solve your issue but please let us know if this does not work and we'd be happy to troubleshoot with you!

In addition to the others, if you have an EDU (student) license for your home computer that includes rights to the 2018 version.  You should check hardware compatibility, especially GPU and driver version, just to be on the safe side before doing anything.

If your license at home is a commercial version and you are "off maintenance" i.e. not entitled to the latest version then I do NOT recommend installing the new version with an EDU license on the same computer.

Hi @Anonymous!

If you're a current student you should have access to 2018.

If you aren't sure where to go, you can sign in here and should be able to download the update!

Let me know if you're able to download the update or need more assistance!
