Audio and codecs VLC to play audio maya playblast

Hello

I like to use VLC as my default player to playblast and check animation in maya; however, I am having issues with my audio track not playing with my VLC playblast.  The audio track only works/plays with windows default player but I prefer to use VLC on windows 10 to check my dialogue/lipsync animations.

If there is a proper link to download or fix this issue or any suggestions would be super helpful and greatly appreciated.  -Or maybe there is a setting in VLC to help remedy this issue.  I followed all tutorials online for VLC and was unsuccessful.

Thanks:)

Hi, @stevenfila7 .

In my environment, PlayBlast will play with a VLC media player.
my environment.

Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7700 CPU @ 3.60GHz 3.60GHz
Installed RAM 16.0GB
Edition Windows 10 Pro
Version 22H2
OS build 19045.2846
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
Pen and touch Pen support

There is something I want you to confirm and do.

  • What version of VLC Media Player are you using? Have you updated to the latest?
  • What is the OS version of your computer? Windows? Mac?
  • For Windows, show the video and audio items in the properties of the video file
  • What about VLC Preferences? Have you changed anything?

what I want you to do

  1. Left-click on the video you want to PlayBlast from now on
  2. Select Open With > Choose Another app
  3. Select VLC Media Player and check the Always use this app to open (.yourformat files) checkbox.

left-click the videoleft-click the videochoose VLC and Checkboxchoose VLC and Checkbox

I hope this fixes it.

Hello,

I have tried all of these and it does not work unfortunately.  I am using windows 10, latest in VLC player and default apps for .avi files (maya playblast) is set to VLC.

Any other ideas?

Thanks,

Steve

I'm sorry about that. May I ask? To know the details and current status of this issue.

  1. Have you tried reinstalling the vlc media player?
  2. After PlayBlast, does the animation open and play in vlc media player or does it open in fcheck?
  3. How did Maya and Windows 10 change after PlayBlast?
  4. How did you add audio to PlayBlast?
  5. What are your audio format and kbps?

I have confirmed that there is no problem when PlayBlast is .mov (QuickTime alternative installed), encoding is H.264 and audio is .wav and 2116kbps.

This time I tested using PlayBlast with .avi and 2116kbps with .wav audio. Encoding is none. The results were reproducible. I got the same results. The video plays but there is no sound.

As it was played in Adobe After Effects, there is no problem with the data itself. I fixed the data in the VLC media player, but it didn't help. So if you really want to play it with VLC Media Player, I think you need to convert it to mp4 and play it. After converting to MP4 with Adobe Media Encoder, the sound was played.

So sorry for not giving you the answer that you're looking for.

Best,

Hello,

I am still having difficulty with the player not playing audio- I am looking at ways to use VLC without conversions/other third party software(s) if possible- if anyone out there knows how to achieve this, please reach out

Thank you

Hi! @stevenfila7 .

I received a reply. The content is.

Upon further investigation, it shows that the sample file provided plays correctly with VLC 4.0 (so the problem is solved for this forthcoming release) and that the issue was reported before.

Therefore, closing this ticket as a duplicate in favour of the original report. Thank you for your detailed information that made this possible.

This means that it is likely to be fixed in version 4, so please wait patiently.
