Detect character body self penetration before simulation?

Hi
We try to detect our characters body mesh, self penetration before simulation
Is it possible to make their body, ncloth and turn on input mesh attract and query self collision per frame?
detecting mesh penetration and collision is a very common issue before simulation and i appreciate any idea that helps 🙂 detect our characters body mesh, self penetration before simulation

Hi @Anonymous and welcome to the community!

I'm a little confused by your issue.

Are you looking to detect if the character penetrates itself, or if the nCloth penetrates the character?

When you get a chance, please come back with as much information as possible so I can further assist you!

Hi, and thank you for your reply

i'm looking for a way to detect if the character penetrates itself, but some how i have an idea to make it trough ncloth self collision detection,

i think of converting the whole body to ncloth and query the self collision, i don't konw how sane is it 😛 , if you have any other suggestion for detect, if the character penetrates and collides itself please mention 🙂

Hi @Anonymous

I've never tried that before but it doesn't seem like too crazy of an idea Smiley Tongue

Let me know how it works for you!

Hi, I am also interested in this issue. Are there ways to prevent self-penetration of the mesh when transferring animation to the model?

Houdini has a Polydoctor node. it can detect self penetration nicely but it has its own calculation times per each frame, sometimes it costs more than simulation especially in heavy complex meshes.
