XGen Interactive Groom - cache in abc file per frame

Hey everyone,

I just want to ask if it's possible to cache hair or fur in single files instead of creating one large file. My problem is that I have a large sequence with a moving ape and maya crashes sometimes when I cache it out, because the filesize get's to big. Loading a single cache file would not only speed up the loading process for one frame, it would be also better to change a specific part of a sequence.

Sadly you can't use the frame parameter on the XGen Spline Cache. Can I script there something with python or will this feature be available in new versions.

I really like the new interactive groom tool - it is more artist friendly than the old system 🙂

Best regards,

Timo

I'm not sure Alembic caches can be exported as per frame caches. Are you using sub frame steps? That can increase the cache size.

You could also export the cache in sections of the frame range and create smaller caches that way. Yould could then export a single fame cache and use the other caches as blend shape drivers on the single frame cache.

You could export each frame as a single frame cache in a similar manner, but that would need a lot of patience or a script.

Cheers

Thank you for your answer! I'll check that with the subframes it could be the reason for the big caches...that will maybe help a bit 🙂

I already made caches with 100 frames per file, but it get's annoying changing it before submitting to the farm and render in many little pieces. I just thought that there is maybe a smarter solution out there 😉
