Problem with Maya Mash collisons + timing

Hi, I'm really new to Maya and have been experimenting with making objects fall into containers for a project ; I would create a mash network and under collider objects add the container. it was going fine until I created a new project and repeated the same steps except now every time I click play the network keeps hitting the top of the container even when the top face has been deleted? (video 1)

Additionally, in my original project where the network will fall into the container, it suddenly became super laggy where before it was really quick - (the same speed as the second attachment) (video 2)

I've tried fixing both issues myself but can't seem to find any solutions, so any help would be appreciated!

Thank you!

If you can share the file, it will be easier to help you.

Now, the collision isn't working as you expected because by default the collision shape is set up to be automatic which in most cases it works just fine but when you have a more "complex" (open polygons)  shape is better to set it up to mesh, which is under that poly shape > MASH > Collision shape

Hi, thanks for getting back to me!

So I tried changing the collision shape under Mash Dynamics to mesh but it still seems to not pass through ? This time I'll add both of the original files in case that helps.

Hi again, - just wanted to update I re-tried changing collision type to mesh (I'd originally tried it in the bullet-solver instead of the container) and it works! Thank you so much!

I'm still not 100% certain on why the timing in the original was really slow, but now this works i can just quickly remodel that in a new file so it's not really a problem.  🙂

I just had one more question - The network will now fall into and collide with the object which is great - but after a few seconds quite alot of the individual objects fall through the mesh - I've tried doubling up the objects and adding thickness to each object but I still can't figure out why it's doing this. If you had any ideas that would be great.

-thank you

(unfortunately I can't add the actual maya file, but I've atached a recording in the meantime).

In the bullet solver try to increase the internal frame rate from 60 to 120 or 240 you might have to go higher if it doesn't values do not work.
