Maya 2016 Bifrost Cache to disk restarting from frame 1

Hi!

Running into an annoying issue. I have a really heavy simulation scene I want to cache to disk, but I can only make it about 50 frames through a cache to disk before Maya crashes. So what I need to do is to cache up to frame 50, and then restart maya and continue caching from frame 51 to 100, etc.

It seems like this should be possible given the controls available - but every time I try it the simulation just caches 1-50 again (but names it 51-100).

I have now tried everything everything I can think of; overlapping one start frame, overlapping several start frames. It just doesn't work.

It does the same crash after 50-ish frames on several computers, so I have no hope of being able to cache the whole thing at once. I really need to be able to append the cache. That's the only way.

Is this a known issue? Any fix available in that case? 😞 I have the latest SP.

Would really appreciate any advice!

Hi Nicklas,

I'm not sure whether this is one of the things that you have tried, but in the Caching section of the liquid and/or foam properties, set the Cache Control attributes to 3. This will read cache files if they exist, and compute and write them if they don't. Then, you can simply play forward.

If you need to restart, just go to the last cached frame and play forward from there.

Also, make sure that "Run up to current time" is off in your Dynamics preferences.

I hope that helps,
