Cannot Pan in Maya, no Middle Mouse

So I have just started using Maya (2017) today and I know some of the basics, how to navigate, zoom in/out and pan. But I'm unable to pan because my computer has a left mouse and a right mouse, but no middle mouse. I heard that you are able to get into Maya's settings and make it so that there can be a keyboard shortcut so you will be able to pan without having to use the middle mouse on your computer, but I do not know how to even get into settings, let alone get into the keyboard shortcuts window. If someone can help me that would be great, thank you.

as far as i know, three-button mouse is a must.

If you're using a Mac this might help, otherwise get a 3 button (scroll) mouse

i am using Maya 2016 and using 2 button mouse, panning not available on the middle button which is the wheel. but i discovered by clicking both Ctrl + Alt at the same time using left button drag and draw a square to which area you wanna pan will do the trick.

So an easy way is through the viewport menu VIEW>CAMERA TOOLS>TRACK TOOL

Magic Mouse Apple does not have middle button. I've got same problem.

The center button that's the wheel. However i found by way of clicking both Ctrl + Alt on the equal time the use of left button click here drag and draw a square to which vicinity you wanna pan will do the trick.

If you are using a magic mouse, you can pan around using two fingers (not clicking, just gently rest them on the mouse and move them together like on a trackpad).

I have a similar problem but with a wacom tablet whose pen only has one button. Took me a while but I finally found a workaround that, while not ideal, works perfectly for me. Should help mouseless peeps too (do get a mouse instead though if you can)
I pan by emulating the middle mouse by holding down e

- Download and install Autohotkey.
- Right click on an empty area of your desktop > New > AutoHotkey Script
- Give the script a name, then open the file on the Notepad or something similar to edit it. (Right click > Open with)
- Paste this in a new line (or as the only line):

~e & LButton::MButton

- Save the file, close it. Then double click the script to run it. An icon will appear on your taskbar.
- Now as long as the script is running, in maya, you can hold down alt, like usual, then e and then click to pan.
I picked e because it felt the most natural and doesnt conflict with anything else, but ofc you can edit the little script and change it
Keep in mind this will break any existing e + click shortcut that a software might have, but I've never seen such a shortcut used anywhere anyway.

Yeah you need a middle button, but in a pinch if you need to pan in a viewpanel:

1. Go to the pane's menu bar and choose View > Camera Tools
2. Select Track Tool
3. Now, your regular trackpad click (left mouse) will pan you around

Well that sucks. Why cant i bind my rightclick to pan? Maya seems so counter intuitive.
