Can you Control an object shatter?

So my goal for this animation is to have Link shatter a thrown pot. But, I am trying to get the pot to shatter via Bullet (if there is a better way, I will fix it). When I apply the rigid object, the pot will stop animating and come to a standstill. Is there a way I can keep the shatter effect and my translation animation? Here is the footage of what I have so far.

I have not used the prehistoric Bullet solver in Maya, but I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't work well. But the one in Mash should give you want. Just use your pieces as the initial state in Mash.

If you want more help it would be ideal if you could just share the pot, not character or anything.
