Rigging character attachments?

Rigging character attachments?

I currently have an assignment to rig my character I made for a class.   He is a soldier with lots of attachments, like belts, a gun, a knife and lots of extra pockets.

Simply just need to know do I rig it with the skeleton?? Or do I rig the basic body and then parent those attachments to the body?
any help would be great thank you

For constraints, it depends on the object, but you can honestly just skin it to whatever bone(s) that are appropriate. Use closest distance as the bind method.

You can parent objects under the skeleton, but usually you want to avoid doing that.  Take a look at parent constraints if you want something to rigidly follow a joint.  I wouldn't skin objects if I just want them to follow a single joint.

(There are exceptions, especially with game engine assets.)
