Painting Skin Weights

Hi,

So I'm attempting rigging for the first time and theres ALOT of pulling on the model. Im wanting to fix it using the paint skin weights tool however when i click into the tool the influence doesnt show up. Its probably an easy fix but i cannot find it for the life of me. Ive included a screenshot of me in the tool and some of the distortion im trying to fix.

Hi!

You have to select the mesh object, not the skeleton (you don't want to paint on the skeleton, you want to paint on the object).
