Is it possible to constrain geometry to a specific joint axis rotation?

Hey everyone,

I have basic rigging knowledge, and I’ve run into an issue that seems to be over my head.

Here is my goal:

1. The selected geometry and bones with rotate with the yellow axis:

2. The selected geometry and joints will rotate with the blue axis:

3. The selected joint will control the entire arm on the yellow axis (this one is easy enough):

The main problem is 1. and 2.

Is it possible to constrain specific geometry to one joint axis and not the others?

You can only constrain certain if you open the option box of the orient constraint and choose them in the "Constraint axes" option. However that will probably cause you problems down the line.

Since your only problem seems to be that some objects only should follow the blue axis. I would probably add another joint into the hierachy, about midway through the pipe, parented under the joint that controls 1 and above the joint that controls 3, then you constrain all objects that only need to move with blue to the new joint and all that need to move with yellow also to the joint that constrols 3. After that you restrict the movement of the new joint by locking the green and yellow channels in the channelbox and that of the one that controls 3 by looking blue and green.

I hope it helps!
