I have assigned influence to my characters brow curves - 'skin>edit influence>add influence' with out an error message, but they won't show up in my 'influences' when I enter the paint skin weight tool. (see attached image)
Its mainly because you are under the paint weights for joints.. if you are in Maya 2018 go to "Rigging>Deform>Paint Weights>Wire.... it should be towards the bottom of the list.. thats where you can paint weights for wires specifically!
