Graph editor is blank

Hello,

Brand new install of Maya LT (have tried this in both 2018 and 2017 with same result) and any control or joint I select that has keys on it (visible in timeline and channel box) I get a blank graph editor. have tried to set to classic and modern view with no change. I am unable to work without the graph editor, please advise.

I'm seeing these error messages in the script editor as well (not sure if related?):

// Warning: file: C:/Users/sunger/Documents/maya/scripts/graphEditorPanel.mel line 1507: Pixmap file butterworth_small.png not found, using default. //

// Error: file: C:/Program Files/Autodesk/MayaLT2017/scripts/startup/uiRes.mel line 107: displayString identifier "m_graphEditorPanel.kGetTraxIconAnnot" does not exist. //

// Error: file: C:/Program Files/Autodesk/MayaLT2017/scripts/others/loadAnimMenuLibrary.mel line 2015: Cannot find procedure "isModernGraphEditor". //

// Error: file: C:/Program Files/Autodesk/MayaLT2017/scripts/others/loadAnimMenuLibrary.mel line 1625: Cannot find procedure "isModernGraphEditor". //

Hi!

1. Try a reset of your preferences.
Rename the folder prefs in folder 2018 to something like prefs_backup, or to reset everything, the folder 2018 to 2018_backup (or even the maya folder to maya_backup). Maya creates new folders (don't copy preferences from previous Maya versions). Detailed at:
https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/maya/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Reset-May...

2. Check your GPU for compatibility and update drivers

3. Try clean uninstall and then re-install

Thanks for the response. Restart and delete prefs did nothing. I know my video card works as I use Maya and MoBu professionally on this computer as well.

Hi @Anonymous and welcome to the community!

What GPU you are you using?

gtx 770. Drivers are up to date and I have no issues in Maya or MoBu with it. I assume LT doesn't have different requirements?

Hi @Anonymous

While we don't officially support the gtx 770, our certified driver version is 388.43.

When you get a chance, can you please uninstall your current GPU drivers and then install version 388.43?

Let me know if anything changes!

Hey Sean, thanks for the tip. Unfortunately reverting to that driver version didn't help. Still a blank graph editor. I'm seeing these errors when trying to launch it though:

// Warning: file: C:/Users/sunger/Documents/maya/scripts/graphEditorPanel.mel line 1507: Pixmap file butterworth_small.png not found, using default. //
// Error: file: C:/Program Files/Autodesk/MayaLT2017/scripts/startup/uiRes.mel line 107: displayString identifier "m_graphEditorPanel.kGetTraxIconAnnot" does not exist. //

Hi @Anonymous

If resetting your prefs didn't work there may be an issue with how Maya is reading your file paths and looking for certain files etc.

I'd recommend performing a clean uninstall/reinstall of Maya.

Please let me know if this helps or if you need any more assistance!

Hi @Anonymous

Hmm ok. What is your rendering engine set to? Try changing it to either DirectX or Open GL depending on what it's currently set to and let me know how that goes for you!

I've tried all of the settings available for the renderer with no change.

Hi @Anonymous

Hmmm ok.

Out of curiosity, does this happen on a specific Maya scene or even on an empty new Maya scene?

new scene, opening a scene from someone else that worked on their machine, empty scene, create objects and animate them in a new scene. I've tried every combination I can think of with no change. It's a really weird issue.

If this was just personal work or me taking LT for a test drive I would have uninstalled and walked away by now. But I have a freelance gig that requires me to use it and I'm pretty much at the point I have to turn away work that I badly need because of this. It is incredibly frustrating that Autodesk has blocked any kind of cross-platform support for LT as well. I could have just migrated the character to full Maya and have been working for the last couple of weeks.

Hi @Anonymous

I understand how frustrating this must be for you. We created Maya LT to be in-itself a separate (cost efficient) solution for people not needed all the bells and whistles of the full Maya.  With that said, we did not want Maya LT to become a replacement (especially at it's price point) for Maya, as many production houses would get Maya LT and then push their art work to the full Maya.

As for you issue, you could try Clamp Texture Resolution in Viewport 2.0 to preserve more RAM for other things like Graph Editor, its a stretch but may work.

You also could change back to "Classic" Graph Editor UI in Preferences->Settings->Animation->Graph Editor.

If neither of these work, in the Script Editor menu check the option "Echo All Commands" then open the Graph Editor and paste any errors that appear there here!

Let me know if anything changes!

I get the desire to have a smaller, more affordable package, but if I've paid the license for both, why shouldn't I be able to access the features of both? It's basically forcing a customer to choose the more expensive option out of the gate.

Anyways, I appreciate you sticking with this to help. Neither of the last tips help, unfortunately. here is the full script editor dump when I open the GE:

addGraphEditor graphEditor1;
// Warning: file: C:/Users/sunger/Documents/maya/scripts/graphEditorPanel.mel line 1507: Pixmap file butterworth_small.png not found, using default. //
// Error: file: C:/Program Files/Autodesk/MayaLT2017/scripts/startup/uiRes.mel line 107: displayString identifier "m_graphEditorPanel.kGetTraxIconAnnot" does not exist. //
buildPanelPopupMenu scriptEditorPanel1;
createModelPanelMenu modelPanel1;
createModelPanelMenu modelPanel2;
createModelPanelMenu modelPanel3;
createModelPanelMenu modelPanel4;
createOutlinerPanelMenu outlinerPanel1;
buildPanelPopupMenu graphEditor1;
if (!stringArrayContains("buildViewMenu($gMainWindowMenu)",`evalDeferred -list`)){evalDeferred("buildViewMenu($gMainWindowMenu)") -lp;};
// Result: graphEditor1Window //
buildViewMenu($gMainWindowMenu);

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for attaching the log. There's definitely something up with your editor because the difference in your script output to mine is drastically different.

It's a stretch, but instead of opening the Graph Editor via Windows->Animation can you try opening your script editor and running "GraphEditor;" as a mel script to see if the same errors occur?

Also, by chance do you have any 3rd party scripts or plug-ins running? The line in your output "displayString identifier "m_graphEditorPanel.kGetTraxIconAnnot" does not exist. //" looks familiar to an issue someone had opening their UV editor and the cause was a 3rd party script/plug-in.

Also I forgot to ask earlier, but are both your versions of Maya 17 and 18 up to date with our latest updates? If not please install them and let me know if anything changes!

below is the dump from opening it via mel command.

I don't have any third party stuff running in LT. I do in maya though. I'm currently on 2016.5 as that's what my studio is on. It's up to date as far as I know though.

Hi @Anonymous

Ok that code looks much more like what I see when I launch my Graph Editor.

The most glaring issue looks like:

"C:/Users/sunger/Documents/maya/scripts/graphEditorPanel.mel line 1507: Pixmap file butterworth_small.png not found, using default. //

// Error: file: C:/Program Files/Autodesk/MayaLT2017/scripts/startup/uiRes.mel line 107: displayString identifier "m_graphEditorPanel.kGetTraxIconAnnot" does not exist. //"

Does that butterworth_small.png file mean anything to you? Is it a file you may have used for the freelance project and or a different project with Maya?

Also, can you check that file path to see if the graphEditorPanel.mel script is in that folder? I just checked all of my maya folders and there's no script file like that.

Let me know if anything changes!

Unfortunately none of the above worked. I ended up deleting a couple of mel scripts and it seemed to have corrected the issue though, so at least I can use the graph editor now.

thanks for your help!
