Saving weight maps not working.

Hi. i get this error when i try to export weight maps.

exportSkinMap.mel line 304: Failed to export the attribute map.

tried to delete userprefs.mel, and restore default prefs, both didn´t worked. My model has very well laid out uvs. I´m not 100% sure, but i think this didn´t happened before i installed the latests service pack. i was able to do one weight export, and those maps seem to be fine.

thanks

have you tried using the other exporter?

edit deofmers > export deformer weights

This works on a vertexId basis and doesnt require UVs and creates a single file instead of a big image per joint.

Have a go.

PS: whats in the construction history of your model? If any topology altering operations are stacked above the skinCluster exporting will fail. If you do have such things, try using delete non-deformer history.

Thanks for your reply, s_ehrenhaus.

I forgot to say, i´m on maya 2016, with SP3, i think.

I did tried your suggestion, and got an .xml file, but it throws this error when trying to import it back:

performImportDeformerWeights.mel line 498: No object matches name:

About the model, it does have a combine node after the skin cluster, and that is the issue, because it will export the maps with a model with clean history.

And as a non-deformer history erase won´t get rid of that combine-after-binding node, i did had to paint some of the weights back on.

In this case it was no biggie, but i wanted to know why, so, thanks!

Ah ok, btw just so you know. The mesh>combine tool now has an option to merge skinClusters. So you will have the polyUnite node below the skinCluster and then you are also able to perform a delete non-deformer history operation on it and have all remain clean.
