Need help to export animated object as FBX

Hello,

i tried to export an animation in Maya as FBX to import it into VRED.

At the end of the FBX export I am always getting this error message:

Warning: Invalid selection set (1) The FBX plug-in cannot export the Geometry Cache for the following reason(s): No set is selected for geometry cache export, the selected set is empty, or the selection set is applied to the shape node of the object instead of its transform node:

But I have absolutely no idea what I am doing wrong. I never tried this before and used this official autodesk guide (https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/vred-products/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/...

And thats what i did:

1. I made a keyframe animation of a moving sphere. (just for testing)

2. selected the sphere

3. created a set: Create > Sets >Set (name:test)

4. created a geometry cache file (MCC): Cache > Geometry Cache > Create New Cache (i used exactely the settings of the guide) At this point my animation started and stopped like i want to export it.

5. the sphere is still selected

6. export selection option box

7. file typ: FBX export

8. 'Edit preset...' under file type specific options

9. enabled the required animation settings and selected my set (test) in geometry cache file

10. after exporting the selection the file was saved and I got the error message (in a new window)

I am useing  Maya 2016 Student version.

Does anyone know what I am doing wrong? Or at least possible sources for mistakes? I need this for a school project...

Thanks in advance!
