missing referenced file

I am opening tons of animation Maya files someone animated. Character model is pointed as a reference in Maya.

Whenever I open animation files, I have to re-point referenced character file.

Due to the reference path was changed, It's such a wasting time.

I was thinking that once Maya file opens, virtual path script being run and automatically re-pointing referenced file  . but I don't know how to make it.

Any solutions?

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for posting! Are you using a project folder while working in Maya? As long as the project folder is set (File > Set project folder) prior to loading scene files and their associated references, the path changes should save 🙂 Without the project folder it is expected that you will have to reassign the path every time.

Also, can you tell me what version of Maya you are working with? If you select Help > About Maya it will show the Year version as well as the update 🙂

Hi @Anonymous

Hope you are doing well! I wanted to check in and see how things were going. Did you have a chance to try working with a project folder? Any success retaining those project paths?
