Maya save and close made my mesh and bones disconnect

So I am making a custom character and had the model ready, rigged, and painted weights on the model perfectly. I also saved the scene like it was a religion, but for some reason when I exported the fbx and saved after that, the bones didn't export connected to the model. I literally spent hours on painted weights and it does this. is there a way to restore a closed project from before?
