Deformation when exporting to Unity

Hey! Im super new to Maya, and im having some issues with exporting a skinned, rigged, and animated model from maya to Unity. The animation itself looks fine when imported to Unity, but the mesh deforms in a very bizarre way (see image attached) and i can't determine what's making this happen. Thanks in advance!
